Bracing up a porch roof.
This time i was jacking the porch roof up so i could install my final and last portion of half round gutter.
Install another bracket in this position.
Decks typically are designed to support 55 pounds per square feet or psf of weight.
Once it is plumb mark the position on the porch roof.
Porch decks also require larger footings than deck footings.
Before putting the stronger beam in place jack up the porch roof 7 3 4 inches to make room for the new taller beam images 1 and 2.
The bracing technique largely depends on the size weight and type of roof.
If the roof is attached to the deck it needs to be able to support the weight.
Position a mounting bracket at one of the marks on the bottom of the porch.
Now carefully remove the bracing and lower the porch roof on to the new beam images 3 and 4.
Stand a post up in the bracket and hold a level on its side.

The bracing will take an afternoon and give you as many stress free working days as you need.
Step 5 wrap the new beam.
If the deck doubles as a porch it needs to be able to support no more than 80 psf.
The porch roof is about 10 above grade so the bracing would be greater than 45 closer to 60.
